I see in my home page two breadcrumps

root / home

The root goes to the domain (www.domain.con) and the home goes to domain/home.aspx

What is the purpose or the "root" ? Why do we need it ?

Why is Tidy's dnn:BREADCRUMB skin object RootLevel set to -1 and not 0?

Because I want the breadcrumb to show "home" when viewing a top-level page.

My assumption is that you will be hiding the breadcrumb on your homepage using this technique:

And then you can modify the language/text of "Root" to "Home" or "Hommes" or whatever.

You can change this text by logging in as an Admin and going to Admin > Languages and clicking on the grey pencil under Static Resources - System/Host/Site (whichever level you wish to set this value)

Then on the left under Language Editor:
  1. Expand Local Resources
  2. Expand Admin
  3. Expand Skins
  4. Expand App_LocalResources
  5. Click BreadCrumb.ascx
Adjust Resource Name: Root.Text to "Home" or whatever you want the root text to be.

This will allow your breadcrumbs to behave in a manor consistent with current user expectations.
